Buckskin and Highland Games
At past jamborees, buckskin games were part of regional action center activities. However, on top of Garden Ground Mountain, these games will be expanded and will include a new area called highland games. At the Buckskin games at the Summit, you will have the chance to shoot black powder rifles, throw tomahawks, toss a caber, put a Summit brand on just about anything and do many other fun and challenging activities. The staff working in these areas will be in period costumes and can answer questions about what it was like to live “back in the pioneer days” when America was still expanding on our western frontier. |

Pioneering
Pioneering has been a part of Scouting since day 1, and is actually one of the original merit badge topics from 1911. At past jamborees, pioneering has been a part of regional action center activities, but in 2013, pioneering on top of Garden Ground will be bigger and better than ever. You might be a part of a team that builds anything from a simple rope bridge, to a fully operational merry-go-round. And you might think that you know everything there is to know about knots and lashings, but our expert staff can teach you some new tricks. |

OA Indian Village - Jamboree Trek
On each of the five days during the Jamboree, the units in 4 of our 20 subcamps will participate in this activity. Each unit will be met at breakfast by an Order of the Arrow (OA) guide who will accompany them on a hike on one of several trails from their campsite to the Garden Ground. These trails are moderate hikes of about 3-4 miles with an elevation change of about 1,000 feet, and should take no more than 2 ½ hours. Garden Ground is the “summit of the Summit” and has several very large open areas where participants will find a variety of interesting and engaging programs. Everyone will bring their lunch with them to eat on top of the mountain. Then, at the end of the day, on the way back to camp, there will be a BBQ dinner for everyone to share. One of the Garden Ground Mountain programs is the OA Indian Village. This feature has been a part of our national jamborees for many years, but never before has it been located in such a fantastic setting! There will be lots of tepees and other type lodges, plus American Indian outfits, regalia, dances, crafts and games. Members of the Order of the Arrow will serve as the staff for this event, and it is sure to be the best ever. |
