Scout Leaders –
This past Wednesday, the Jamboree committee met to discuss how we can help you recruit the number of scouts you need to be able to attend the Jamboree with your troop.
Here is what we came up with for the Scouts:
1). the scout must register on-line
2). the scout must get tthe Scoutmaster to sign the form (Request to Attend Form)
3). the form and $100 must be turned in to the Scout office before our Jamboree Committee (with Scoutmaster/Leaders)
meeting on March 21, 2012
For the adults:
1). Register online (no money is required to register)
2). The first payment will be required by March 31st, after you are accepted as an adult scout leader for the council
at our meeting on March 21st.
Now, lets talk about the plan:
First, I want everyone to understand that a scout does not need to go to the Jamboree with his home unit. Every scout who registers to go to the Jamboree will be placed into a troop going to the Jamboree.
There are three different possibilities for assignments:
The scout could go with his home troop
The scout could be placed in a home troop that needs a few extra scouts to make up the 36 needed in each Jamboree troop.
The scout is placed in a contingent Jamboree Troop staffed by adult leaders interviewed and assigned by the Occoneechee council.
Many troops are well on their way to getting the 24 scouts (even the 36 scouts) they need to attend the Jamboree as a troop. Others are still struggling to get the 24 required. Every scout who registers to attend the Jamboree, will be going. If the adult leaders are not able to form a troop of 24 scouts you will need to join with other leaders in the same situation to get to the 24 scouts required. This may mean that you will not be able to choose all of the adults that will be attending with your scouts. Some of the adult leadership will need to come from the other troops you are banding together with.
On March 21st I would like to invite all of the adult leaders who want to attend the Jamboree with their troops to be at the March 21st meeting at the scout office at 7:00pm. If you only have 10 or 15 scouts, you will be able to talk to another scout leader with 10 or 15 scouts and work out an arrangement to form a Jamboree troop of at least 24 scouts. In fact I will be at the scout office at 6:30pm to give you a little more time before the meeting to work things out.
At the meeting on March 21st you will need to bring a list of the scouts and adults you have recruited. This list will be matched to the council‘s list of registered scouts and leaders and we will start to figure out how many troops we will have going to the Jamboree. Please have all of this prepared before you come on March 21st.
If you just have scouts who want to attend the Jamboree and your troop is not attending as a unit, you do not need to attend the meeting. We will take good care of your scouts and assign them to a great Jamboree troop with great leadership.
I hope that this is clear. We are trying to make this process as easy as possible, but this is the first time the council has allowed the troops to attend as a unit and we are learning as well. If you have questions, please let me know.
Thanks,
